Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 28, 2026
VoiceToSub is designed with privacy as a core principle. We offer multiple usage modes so you can choose the level of privacy that suits you.
Browser Mode (WASM)
When using in-browser mode, all speech recognition and translation happens entirely within your browser using WebAssembly. No audio or text data leaves your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any data in this mode.
Local Mode (Desktop App)
When using local processing, all audio is handled entirely on your own machine using the Whisper model. No data is transmitted to any external service.
Cloud Mode (OpenAI API)
When using the OpenAI API option, audio data is sent to OpenAI for transcription and translation. This is governed by OpenAI's privacy policy. Your API key is stored locally on your machine and is only used to authenticate requests to OpenAI on your behalf.
Desktop App
The VoiceToSub macOS desktop app:
- Processes video files entirely on your machine in local mode — no audio leaves your Mac
- Does not run in the background when not in use (accessible from the menu bar when launched)
- Does not track usage, browsing history, or activity
- Does not collect analytics or telemetry
- Stores settings (model, language, API key if provided) locally in
~/Library/Application Support/VoiceToSub
Website
The voicetosub.com website is a static site hosted on Firebase. We do not use cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics services. No personal data is collected through the website.
Data We Do Not Collect
- Personal information (name, email, address)
- Audio recordings or transcriptions
- Browsing history or video watching habits
- Device fingerprints or identifiers
